"Old Ironsides"
- Our Story
On July 16, 2000, Stuart
and Georgette Swan chartered a sail boat to
witness the departure of the Tall Ships
from Boston Harbor. Each ship was to pass in
review of Old Ironsides and salute. Many of
the ships fired cannon to which "IRONSIDES"
would reply in kind.
They did not know it at the time but the
sail boat they had chartered was a Maritime
training vessel. Hence to their surprise
they were instructed by the parade Marshall
to take their place in the parade of Tall
Ships, pass in review, and salute USS
CONSTITUTION. There was much excitement
aboard "Infanta", their chartered sailboat.
As they approached "OLD IRONSIDES" they
dipped their colors and snapped the most
reverent salute that they could possibly
muster. As "OLD IRONSIDES" dipped HER colors
and the entire crew returned the salute
there was much cheering from the crew of
"Infanta". Once passed USS CONSTITUTION,
she raised her colors and dropped the salute
which meant that "Infanta" was to do the
same and stand down.

Throughout all of the cheering and
excitement Georgette managed to capture the
spirit of the most revered symbol of our
national resolve in two spectacular images,
"BROADSIDE" and "STARBOARD BOW." These photographs have been transferred to
high quality archival art canvas and are now on sale at
Stuart Swan Furniture Company.
